Employees Believe Salary Ranges on Job Postings Should Be Mandatory

We conducted another informal survey this week. This time, we asked whether salary ranges should be required on all job postings. Each of the individuals polled responded that salary ranges should be mandatory on all job postings. Despite this support from the general workforce, only a handful of states have implemented pay-transparency laws to date.

So where does it go from here? There appears to be more and more support in favor of pay transparency—particularly by employees; yet, there has not been very much movement in recent months in the area of additional proposed pay transparency legislation. As support for pay transparency increases within the workforce, we believe some additional laws will be passed but it may be a slower movement to get all states on board. Will organizations proactively provide pay transparency where no specific state law is in place? Perhaps some. But given where the matter stands currently, we suspect that will not be the majority absent legislation and demand from employees.
